Norway’s Intelligence Service is usually totally invisible. But the Deputy Head, Lars Nordrum, gave a press conference last week in which he suggested there is a real risk that Norway’s oil and gas installations could be vulnerable to Russian sabotage, especially now that Norway has replaced Russia as the leading energy provider to Western Europe. The Chief of the Norwegian Intelligence Service, Vice Admiral Nils Andreas Stensønes, went further. He says that there is a real risk that the loss of Russian forces in Ukraine “may lower the threshold for nuclear escalation,” particularly “near Norway.” A report issued by Norwegian Intelligence said: “Tactical nuclear weapons are a particularly serious threat” to Norway as Russia starts to deploy
