There's a lot of speculation in here, which ironically is the sort of thing that creates the environment of distrust which you speak of. Seems unlikely Trump would be calling for the release of the affidavit if the alleged crimes were on par with "selling nuclear secrets."

I certainly wouldn't describe myself as MAGA, but I definitely get a chuckle at the way that the DC Elite (for lack of a better pithy label) view Trump and his followers. A shame that pearl-clutching isn't an Olympic sport. My litmus test for "respectability" of an anti-Trumper's opinion is: do you believe that Trump caused all of this populist broohaha, or did he see a swelling mob, opportunistically jump in front of it, and claim to be leading the parade? I think reality is closer to the latter than the former. A lot of Team DC Elite seems to honestly view themselves as poor misrepresented public servants. I think a closer analogy is Bourbon France, having their nonstop parties in Versailles. You cite absolutely no facts here just “conspiracy theory conjecture” do you have pictures of all these characters pinned to your wall, tied together with yarn and scribbles of your psychotic visions and secret codes from hallucinatory episodes to make these absurd connections? Or an “anonymous source” named Chris Steele who got this info in a bar from a disgruntled, exiled Oxford CIA “informant”?

As always, your analysis is highly interesting. However, I think at heart, the split in America is about a single, simple issue: democracy or authoritarianism. Those who prefer democracy will fight against authoritarianism within the bounds of democratic tools. Those who prefer authoritarianism will fight against democracy with all tools, including excessive force. Would you agree?
Pippa, I don’t think so. My pro Trump friends say the election was stolen. When I ask, “Prove It”, they can’t. Prove it like the Nixon tapes proved it. There maybe somewhere, someone with the 10 line of code or 10 emails or recordings that prove the machines were jammed up to do the wrong thing, but so far nothing. Doesn’t mean there is a jilted lover somewhere out there ready to pounce and get even, but time make it less and less likely. Until it happens it is just an illusion.
I looked at the Internet. All references to Trump and nuclear are 4 days ago. It’s a non-story now. And the time slippage keeps working against the dems and the left. What was there? Probably junk. Team Trump literally were running out of town the way they came in. Completely disorganized. Jamming anything that moved into boxes. This is the group that arrived on the scene and did not know they had 5,000 appoints to make to keep the government working. The whole thing reflects his chaotic personality.
The reality is that all their actions were about protecting one thing, The Brand. It is over a year and a half and suddenly someone is asking about nuclear. Trump didn’t know he had it. They didn’t know he had it. They are trying to nail him on anything and end up looking foolish when they can’t. He’s not that smart. He’s not that cunning. They judge him by their standards, what they would do if they were him. Not looking at what he is doing, or not capable of doing so because his concentration is on a totally different agenda. The Trump Brand. All the rest, all of it, is irrelevant. It won’t stick. Never has, never will. They are playing High School Football and he is playing Major League Baseball. Six states over and a 1,000 miles away.
Now, if he really did sell nuclear, his followers would turn on him in an instant. Loyalty vs. Treason. He loses big. Remember the Nixon Tapes. Same thing.
