If we want to understand the economy of tomorrow, follow art. Fashion is the art that humans wear, so you need understand the meaning behind schlumpy goblin-mode cocooning. Pink PP and the magentaverse.
I love how you see the potential of future in fashion. I first learned of you through RealVision. I have followed you ever since. I love your insights. Appreciate your work.
If I could will anything into existence, it's a societal reevaluation of our individual priorities. Please keep writing about the great redefinition of meaning that I had hoped would occur when the pandemic commenced. Perhaps a narrative of reflection may become widespread enough to gain the psychological traction necessary to be adopted en masse.
Having survived as a brain injured lower left arm amputee from a catastrophic car wreck nearly two decades ago I've long struggled with how best to share the most important lessons of awaking in a bed alone in a hospital room and wiggling my toes to rule out partial paralysis after discovering with my right hand its partner in bidextrous living was no longer.
I fear each generation's tendency to take itself more seriously than the previous can end nowhere other than self-extinction for our species.
I also share this wish and if there are two of us there are more....somehow our voices need to get louder or perhaps just more distinct, instructive even. This is what I think about daily. Grateful to Dr Pippa for giving language to these thoughts and for you sharing this comment.
If not self-extinction, surely a huge readjustment. The book "The Fourth Turning" describes what has apparently been a cycle of western societies for the past 700 or so years, and while it is a worthy read it can be summed up with the phrase:
Hard times make for strong men,
Strong men make for easy times,
Easy times make for weak men,
Weak men make for hard times
I believe it is evident that we are currently living the last line of that stanza
Dr Pippa's addressing of our shared sentiment followed shortly after I received The Great Re-evaluation by Arnold Kling. I'm hopeful this indicates more than coincidence.
As (probably) the furthest from awareness about fashion as a human who bothers to wear clothes can be, I'm oblivious to any signals from fashion unless they are pointed out to me by someone else. Now that I've read this, I realize that I have been in schlumpy goblin-mode cocooning my entire life. Apparently, one can be so far ahead of the curve as to be behind the curve. Cool.
I seem to be on the flip side, heels, dresses and Gucci. That may be because I have found a fabulous designer resale spot in Toronto ❤️ fantastic observation Dr. Pippa - I rarely see women or men with proper dress shoes on. It seems as if that would be “putting on airs”! But I am super curious to see what we will make of mushrooms next. I’m also super curious to see how fast the US can train the Ukrainians on using the Abrams tanks and just how in the heck to get them there as well without encouraging an open water fight.
Yes, great book and useful generational analysis. I received corporate training to better understand the needs and motivations of millennial through gen z'ers and was amazed by how insightful The Fourth Turning is as a work of historical research.

Love that red eyeshadow look.

I resemble that remark!
