I hope your instincts are right Pippa. I think Pelosi's trip is a huge mistake and any negative impacts will be squarely on her (and Biden). I am actually more worried about the buffoon in North Korea, is he China's puppet? Or will he see more opportunity to seriously threaten South Korea in the midst of all this saber rattling. If anyone might make a mistake I would have guess he would be close to the top of the list.
I remember the 70s and the early eighties military build up by Reagan and Thatcher. I was fully in support of that then and recall all the threats about the formidable, highly trained and heavily equipped Russian and Warsaw Pact forces at the time by the British press. Contrast that with today where much of the media berates Russian lack of skills, equipment and logistics in the current Ukrainian conflict. Interesting volte face.
