My greatest concern is that this is what increasingly authoritarian governments all around the world are seeking. Would not Justin Trudeau have given anything for that type of control over the truckers? Or Mark Rutte right now in the Netherlands with the farmers. It appears that elected officials' greatest desire, to be re-elected, is giving way to a new desire, to be able to control the thoughts and minds, and actions, of their populations.
That dramatic proposal was made by Russian diplomats in the days before war. It was ignored then, and conveniently forgotten now. Now we have war, which is not going well at all, and Russia has made clear their next security proposal will be delivered by nuclear missiles. After 35 years of trying to get along, they want nothing from or to do with the west now. China has been watching this, and despite their cultural inhibitions, they do not want to be left behind in the era where they have been customarily treated as a door mat. The Kissinger's hope of somehow going back to status quo ante, like this dramatic proposal, is now a page from a closed book.
Do not ever think Xi only aims at Taiwan. His goal is world domination. Just like Putin, whose goal is not just limited in Ukraine. Once Taiwan lost, similar to the loss of Ukraine, US and Europe will be the next. So, do not think the problems in China is in China only. It will be everywhere in the future if we do not fight back.
When reading the part about the micro-expression tracking of responses to Kool Aid films it really felt like watching the bizarre film Brazil. Pretty scary stuff.
It's good that you cite a lot of sources - but they're all from Western based journalists who either don't read / speak Chinese, or toe the Western propaganda line. Do you read / speak Chinese yourself? Otherwise it's just the blind leading the blind here
