The cornered animal is sometimes (often) the most dangerous. Putin may be done in the long term. In the short term, the struggle to avoid the use of nuclear weapons will be real. At present, we do not know what lies beyond this war. I continue to hope that people around Putin will remove him before he damages the world irreparably.

Russia does have a way of removing its leaders. Sometime but not always to the benefit of the world. I agree with you a caged animal needs a way out

Wow, complete propaganda. Zelensky is not a hero, he’s head of a puppet CIA backed government who instigated the 2014 Color revolution. There are no honest, good people in this fight, they are all power crazed psychopaths: Putin, Zelensky and all of NATO. Grow up.

Ugh the level of objectiveness is getting lower and lower. "We have new heroes: Zelensky, Ukraine’s President and Kira Rudik, a Ukrainian MP. Like all real heroes, as Joseph Campbell taught, they didn’t want the job, didn’t seek the limelight, would rather be doing something else." What a joke lmao

In regards to the mention on Starlink:

How can "Starlink allow regular Russians to connect to the internet against Putin's vociferous objections? "

a) Starlink requires ordering a dish satellite hardware to be installed first i.e. Shipping into Russia. Secondly, below is the message I got when ordering the Starlink dish with a Russian address-

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN ORDERING STARLINK!

Starlink is not yet available in your area due to pending regulatory approval. As we receive approvals our coverage area will continue to expand, so please check back for future availability in your area.

b) Neither is it available in Ukraine as reported in the media. I used a VPN with a Ukrainian server and it will ask to put down a refundable deposit to be available in 2023 (wish I could attach a screenshot)

It is a delicate problem, and not one to be solved through binary thinking. The RUS proposal this morning was I felt a very workable framework*. We need to twist Zelinsk's arm if he does not snap it up. As it appears he will not. In a good settlement, everyone walks away unhappy, but at least they walk.

*URK recognizes the pre-war reality on the ground, commits to non aligned status. RUS takes their toys back home. Finland is a good model here. All parties can walk away claiming the win.

Russia definitively loses. That means the West must now take responsibility for steering the world through the horrible aftermath of all this.

What do you mean? I do not see how could he afford to lose. The afermath control of the territory is of course a totally different issue

Only one law will control Putin. The law of Finance.

That is, when you run out of cash you are impotent and unable to fight wars. The questions western leaders face are 1. How can they hasten Russia's cash depletion? (hint: stop paying them for energy) 2. What cost is the west willing to pay to end the war? (double digit inflation, energy crises, interest rate hikes etc) 3. Where has the west been corrupted and how does Russia does Russia continue to profit from this? UK Laws and protection afforded to Russian oligarchs favour the Oligarchs and their wealth at a time of national crises.

If we assume Putin does run out of cash he will naturally turn to China for Finance. This may actually work in the West's favour in the long run, as China will have to bank roll a globally unpopular war, to a country almost certain to default on the debt. What then? China will need to think it's posture towards a highly diminished, unstable cash haemorrhaging Russia.

No need to for $US. Trade can happen in Petro Ruble, instead of Petro dollars. A liquid bond market will appear over time

We do the all dirty low-paid job - natural resoures, argo. etc. Try it and dig the soil by yourself. Russians got nothing in their pockets comparing with western consumers. Nothing to lose, so alway are ready, what about you?

Sadly, I believe the good news will produce the bad news. The West’s solidarity v Putin leaves him cornered and will end with his initiating a nuclear exchange. His recent indiscriminate shelling of a major nuclear facility proximate to Russia demonstrates that he’s already (as you described him on the MacroVoices podcast) a “suicide bomber” wearing a nuclear vest.
